Phil & Elaine Crossman have owned the Tidewater since 1986, having purchased it from Phil’s folks who built it in 1970. Phil is a native of Vinalhaven (sort of), a builder, a writer and a humorist. His first book, Away Happens, has sold over 6,000 copies. His second book, Observations’, is a history of Vinalhaven as reflected through contributions to the island’s various newsletters over the last 150 years. Phil enjoys meeting people and looks forward to seeing you and doing what he can to ensure
that you enjoy your stay on Vinalhaven and here at the Tidewater.
Elaine, a painter, is originally from Vermont, but has made Vinalhaven her home for over 30 years. More often than not Elaine is “uptown" running the New Era Gallery, where you will find works by many well-known artists who call the island home for some part of the year.
Phil & Elaine have two grown daughters and three grandchildren, all exceptional. The oldest of the two, Sarah, manages the Tidewater with her dad.
